The Research Centre on Sea Technologies and Marine Robotics is part of The BioRobotics Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna located in Livorno at the Scoglio della Regina.

The Research Centre on Sea Technologies and Marine Robotics is equipped for the design, construction, and experimental evaluation of soft, underwater robotic systems. It contains office space with computers for simulation and optimizations, mechanical design, electronic design, and software development, a workspace area for manufacturing and maintenance of prototypes and an experimental testing area with tank and a high speed camera for testing the 3D motion of underwater soft robots. In addition, the lab is equipped with some aquarium for observation and study of marine species.

The Research Centre on Sea Technologies and Marine Robotics is located close to the sea and this location allows you to have direct access to the sea. After being tested in a controlled environment in the testing tanks, all the robots build in the Centre, can be tested directly into the sea in order to assess their performance in a real environment.

The Research Centre on Sea Technologies and Marine Robotics is equipped with:

  • FDM 3D Printer
  • Laser Cutting
  • Mechanical workbench
  • Electronic workbenches
  • Chemical workbench with laboratory fume hoods
  • Testing tanks
  • Aquariums
  • 3D tracking system
  • High-Performance Workstations
  • Laboratory vacuum oven

In additions the Research Centre on Sea Technologies and Marine Robotics can take advantage of all the facilities of The BioRobotics Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.
